The perfect dancefloor: attractive and durable

When Tanz- und Turnierclub München (TTC), one of the Germany’s most successful dancesport clubs, moved into their new studio, they decided to finish their new oak sprung floor with Osmo Polyx®-Oil so that it would be best equipped to meet high demands. Specially formulated for the needs of wooden flooring, Osmo Polyx®-Oil creates a low-maintenance surface that improves indoor air quality. It not only intensifies the colour of wood but also makes it durable, water as well as dirt repellent and extremely hard-wearing. Properties like these have predestined its use in the dance academy. After all, especially high requirements are placed on the flooring here.
Anton Skuratov, German champion in ballroom dance, had only praise for the floors in the new studio, “they are not too slippery and not too grippy, and everywhere it is the same.” Indeed Latin dancers do prefer somewhat rougher floors than ballroom dancers. However, provisions for such preferences can be made by dancers through the choice and the care of their shoe soles – but not with alternating smooth and rough patches on the floor. Club President Michael Schülke emphasises this point, “with Osmo Polyx®-Oil, we can provide our dancers with a dancefloor that is overall uniformly smooth, and that will stay that way for a long time.” While wooden flooring is traditionally coated with wax yet in very little time rough and smooth patches appear, Osmo Polyx®-Oil penetrates the wood deeply and stays exactly where it belongs. This prevents wax from getting stuck in the soles of the dancers’ shoes – no matter how many spins they perform.
Schülke stresses that a lot is expected from the floor surface, “serious sport is done here. Day after day the flooring has to absorb the shock of jumps and withstand turns and high heels. Even after many months of intensive use, Osmo Polyx®-Oil has definitely proven its worth.” The same applies for the cleaning: the dance hall is swept routinely and occasionally mopped with Osmo Wash & Care. This care product, which was especially developed for floors treated with Osmo Polyx®-Oil, moisturizes and will not leech flooring out. Small dents can be simply sanded away and re-oiled on the spot.
