For the princess only the best: design contest in honour of the birth of Princess Charlotte

What do you give a princess? Only the best. And this is what the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, a charity for the English furniture industry, were thinking when they created a contest in honour of the birth of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Designers throughout the nation were called to draft children’s furniture for the royal offspring. In addition, the furniture should pass the critical eye of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, whose fame as a style icon reaches far beyond the country’s borders.

The contest was won by Steuart Padwick. His aim: to create furniture that makes people smile. This is why he utilizes light-coloured timber, provides child-friendly arches and curves, and makes wood shine bright with bold colours. Of course, the finishes have to feel good and at the same time be safe for children. His first choice: Osmo Wood Wax Finish in custom-made colours, which he designed specifically for the project.

“The furniture has been well received and Kate has sent us a lovely personal letter, in which she wrote about how much she and William love the furniture,” enthused the designer and passed the compliment onto his partners, “The project would not have been possible without your wonderful products.” Thanks, Steuart! It has been a true honour.
