Perfectly protected against the sun – the first clear UV protection for the outdoors!
Osmo UV-Protection-Oil is a satin, clear finish for exterior wood furniture. It is based on natural oils, is microporous and does not crack, flake, peel or blister. When used as a final finish after staining wood, Osmo UV-Protection-Oil prolongs the renovation time significantly. A solitary finish, with two coats, it delays the greying process on vertical surfaces by UV-Protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood. Easy to renew, no sanding or primer necessary. Easy to apply, will not dry during application. When dry, the finish is safe for humans, animals and plants and is suitable for children’s toys as per EN 71.3 (European norm) and resistant to perspiration and saliva in accordance with DIN 53160 (German industrial norm).
For all exterior wood furniture in protected areas.

Storage
5 years and longer if stored in the originally closed can. If thickened by frost, store at room temperature for 24 hours prior to use.

NUMBER OF COATS
Two coats on raw wood; for renovations, normally one coat on the clean surface is sufficient – without sanding!

Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (maximum moisture content 20 %). Osmo UV-Protection-Oil is ready to use, please do not thin, stir well before use. Clean old microporous finishes thoroughly. Remove old varnishes. Please do not sand even surfaces finer than P120. Always wear a dust mask when sanding. We recommend to apply a first coat with a pigmented oil such as One Coat Only, Natural Oil Wood Stain or Country Colour.
If additional protection against blue stain, rot and mildew is required for outdoors pre-treat (if possible from all sides) with Osmo Base Coat WR. Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
The finished surface and the product coverage are influenced by several factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, a trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.
Apply evenly along the wood grain with either an Osmo Natural Bristle Brush or the Osmo Microfibre Roller, and spread well. Allow for good ventilation whilst drying. Apply a second coat as before. When renovating, 1 coat of the UV-Protection-Oil Extra is enough. Make sure that the surface has been cleaned upfront.
With Osmo Brush Cleaner (free of aromatic compounds).
Approx. 12 hours (normal climatic conditions, 20-23°C/ 50-65 % rel. humidity). Ventilate well while drying. Lower temperatures and/or higher air humidity may increase drying times. After 2-3 weeks, the surface is fully cured.
Tropical hardwoods or oily wood species must be weathered prior to application. Depending on the level of weathering apply 1 coat of Osmo UV-Protection-Oil after approx. 3 - 4 years on the cleaned and intact finish. In general, one has to take a shorter renovation time into account when:
1. surfaces are exposed to extreme weathering, 2. using exotic wood species, 3. surfaces where water cannot drain (horizontal surfaces).
The UV-Protection-Oil is unsuitable as a solitary finish on horizontal surfaces. There should be a minimum 15 degree angle on architectural joinery on the horizontal. Sharp edges have to be rounded (corner radius > 2 mm). If the greying process has already begun revive the surface with the Osmo
Wood Reviver and re-apply 2 coats of the Osmo UV-Protection-Oil. In order to achieve UV factor 12, it is very important to apply the UV-Protection-Oil
twice. When only 1 coat has been applied on an untreated wood, the durability will be reduced significantly. Owing to the high oil content the clear UV-Protection-Oil shows a light yellowing effect when used as a final finish on white stained surfaces. Therefore, we recommend using the Natural Oil Woodstain 900 white as a final finish for already white stained surfaces. Oil enhances the natural tone of wood (wet look).
Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
